Full-time GIS Officer

International NGO Safety Organisation (INSO) is recruiting a GIS Officer for Maputo.

Purpose of Role:

  • Responsible for conception, preparation, and production of appropriate static- and web-maps for INSO’s informational outputs and ensure dynamic linkages between GIS data and INSO’s Incident Database.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Identify map information needs in collaboration with the Information Management Team;
  • Identify and access map information sources;
  • Under supervision and in collaboration with Information Manager, produce standard map products for bi-weekly/quarterly reports and roundtable meetings in a timely manner. Produce ad hoc maps for those outputs as requested;
  •  Identify obstacles related to the collection, analysis and dissemination of information and develop appropriate improvement strategies;
  • Produce and maintain high-quality, security-relevant static and web-maps, including security incident mapping; area of influence mapping; and the production of detailed risk maps for key roads and cities;
  • Provide GIS-relevant inputs on field missions intended to gather data for INSO outputs, including maps. More specifically, ensuring the regional teams are entering GIS data correctly into the database;
  •  Work closely with the Information Manager to ensure accurate and regularly updated linkages between GIS maps and INSO’s Incident Database;
  • Collaborate with information team on the migration and operation of INSO Incident Database system;
  • Provide support in production of any other visuals like graphics, flowcharts, mind maps etc;
  • Substitute Information Manager and support the team in his/her absence.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Sciences, GIS or relevant field;
  • Fluency in Portuguese and English written and verbal;
  •  3 years of relevant work experience;
  •  Excellent skills in ArcGIS Pro or ArcMap (alternatively QGIS) and Microsoft Office tools;
  •  Be systematic, proactive, innovative, self-motivated and detail=oriented;
  • Excellent analytical skills;
  • Working experience with humanitarian organizations, particularly with NGOs;
  • Knowledge of other local languages;
  • Experience in automation of GIS workflows;
  • Knowledge of SQL, R or Python;
  • Experience in creating PowerBI / ArcGIS online dashboards;
  • Ability to identify issues, analyse and participate in the resolution of issues/problems;
  • Excellent communication, organizational and managerial skills;
  • Demonstrated understanding of humanitarian principles and practices;
  •  Ability to work effectively and efficiently unsupervised;
  • Strong work ethic and capacity to take responsibility for his/her own actions;
  • Be able to work under pressure;
  • Confidentiality, integrity, and a sense of conflict-of-interest prevention;
  • Self-motivation, courtesy, and humility;
  • Capacity to work in multicultural environments.

Terms and Conditions:

  • 12 months renewable contract subject to funding and performance. Salary based on INSO grading scale.
