MOZQUARRIES is recruiting one (1) QA/QC Supervisor for Nanlia, Cabo Delgado.

Primary responsibility

The QA/QC Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that all aggregates produced at the quarry meet the required specifications for use in concrete production. This role oversees all quality assurance and control activities, ensures regulatory compliance, manages testing procedures, and collaborates with production and concrete batching teams to deliver consistent, high-performance materials.

Duties and responsibilities

Quality Management

  • Coordinate and oversee sampling, testing, and inspection of raw materials and finished aggregates in accordance with approved procedures and specifications.
  • Monitor product quality throughout crushing, screening, stockpiling, and production processes to ensure consistency and compliance.
  • Ensure aggregates meet applicable standards such as ASTM, AASHTO, BS, EN, local requirements, and customer specifications.
  • Analyse quality data, identify deviations or non-conformities, and support investigation and corrective actions.
  • Implement and monitor quality control procedures for coarse and fine aggregates used in concrete and other applications.

Laboratory & Testing Oversight

  • Supervise laboratory activities and coordinate in-house and third-party testing as required.
  • Review and verify test results, ensuring accuracy, traceability, and proper documentation.
  • Ensure laboratory and field-testing equipment is properly calibrated, maintained, and fit for use.
  • Oversee key aggregate tests, including gradation, moisture content, silt content, LAA, water absorption, and specific gravity.

Production Support

  • Work closely with Quarry and Production teams to maintain consistent aggregate quality and meet production requirements.
  • Identify quality inconsistencies and recommend process adjustments where necessary.
  • Monitor stockpile management to prevent contamination, segregation, and mixing of materials.
  • Provide technical input to support aggregate performance for concrete production and other applications.
  • Compliance & Audits
  • Ensure compliance with applicable quality, environmental, health and safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain required quality records, certificates, and documentation for audits and regulatory purposes.
  • Support and participate in internal and external quality audits.
  • Follow up on audit findings, non-conformities, and corrective actions until closure.

Technical Support & Customer Relations

  • Provide technical support to clients, consultants, contractors, and internal departments on aggregate quality and specifications.
  • Respond to quality complaints, participate in root cause analysis, and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Provide test reports, certificates, specifications, and other technical documentation as required.
  • Participate in customer visits, inspections, and technical meetings related to product quality and performance.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve product consistency, testing practices, production efficiency, and quality systems.
  • Review quality trends and KPIs and recommend appropriate improvements.
  • Participate in product trials, evaluations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support the training of QA/QC and Production staff on quality requirements and good practices.

Reporting & Documentation

  • Maintain accurate records of test results, inspections, certifications, non-conformities, and corrective actions.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly quality reports as required.
  • Provide regular updates to management on quality performance, trends, and key issues.
  • Participate in production and planning meetings to align quality requirements with operational objectives.

Equipment & Maintenance

  • Ensure quality control and laboratory equipment is correctly operated, maintained, and calibrated.
  • Report defective or inaccurate equipment and ensure appropriate corrective action is taken.

Skills and competencies

  • Solid knowledge of quality assurance and quality control for aggregates and construction materials.
  • Ability to interpret technical standards, specifications, and laboratory test results.
  • Ability to supervise and guide the QA/QC team.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and deviation-identification skills.
  • Good organisational skills, attention to detail, and quality record management.
  • Ability to prepare technical reports and follow up on non-conformities and corrective actions.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work effectively with Production, Clients and Management.
  • Knowledge of HSE requirements, audits, and compliance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.

Education and experience

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Geology, Materials Engineering, Laboratory Technology, Quality Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in QA/QC, preferably within quarrying, aggregates, concrete, construction materials, or a similar industrial environment.
  • Practical experience in material sampling, laboratory testing, inspections, and quality reporting.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory or team coordination role is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of applicable standards such as ASTM, AASHTO, BS, EN, or equivalent standards.
