MOZQUARRIES is recruiting two (2) HSE Assistant for Nanlia, Cabo Delgado.
Primary Responsibility
The HSE Assistant is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring health, safety, and environmental (HSE) systems within the quarry to ensure compliance with statutory obligations, company policies, and industry best practices. The role supports operational teams to work safely, identifies hazards, and drives a proactive safety culture across all Quarry and Logistical activities.
Duties and responsibilities
Compliance & Standards
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation (e.g. Mines Safety and Inspection Act/Regulations, Work Health and Safety Regulations, Environmental Protection laws).
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of quarrying and mining safety requirements.
Risk Management
- Conduct regular inspections, audits, and risk assessments across quarry operations (drilling, blasting, crushing, haulage, processing, workshops, traffic management).
- Identify hazards and implement corrective actions to minimize risk.
Training & Awareness
- Deliver safety inductions, toolbox talks, and refresher training to employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Promote safety awareness through visible leadership and communication.
- Plans routine training on health and safety matters for all staff within the company.
Incident Management
- Lead incident investigations, prepare reports, and track corrective actions.
- Support emergency response planning, drills, and first aid arrangements.
Reporting & Documentation
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, incidents, training, and audits.
- Prepare monthly safety performance reports.
Continuous Improvement
- Support the development and implementation of safety improvement initiatives.
Skills And Competencies:
- Incident investigation and root cause analysis skills.
- Excellent communication, coaching, and influencing ability.
- Computer literacy in MS Office and HSE reporting systems.
- Fluent in Portuguese and English (written and spoken).
- Proactive, approachable, and able to build trust with the workforce.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical thinking.
- Commitment to promoting a “safety first” culture.
- Ability to remain calm and decisive in high-pressure situations.
Education and Experience:
- Certificate in Work Health and Safety or equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience in quarrying, mining, or heavy industry (preferred).
- Strong knowledge of quarry operations hazards (e.g. blasting, equipment, dust, traffic management).
- Strong command of English, both written and spoken.
